Why is exfoliation so important?

Skin is continually turning over, making new cells in the dermis (the lower living tissue that contains blood, nerves, sweat glands, etc.) and sending them up to replace dead skin cells on the epidermis (our outermost layer that waterproofs the body and protects from dehydration, trauma, and infection).⠀

As we age, cell turnover slows down. Cells begin to gather unevenly on the surface, resulting in dry patches and a lackluster appearance.⠀

Proper exfoliation should be a fundamental step in your skincare routine. Through exfoliation, we reveal the fresher, younger cells, bringing back clarity and brightness.⠀

With any skin type, you should aim to exfoliate 1-2 times a week, with a method that is appropriate for your skin condition and sensitivity.⠀

Over-exfoliating can make your skin irritated, create tiny cracks in the skin’s barrier leading to loss of hydration and inflammation causing breakouts⠀

Always be sure to listen to your skin. If you are feeling dry and or red, cut back on the exfoliation. If the irritation continues, ask us, and we can help you find an exfoliant that is better suited for your unique skin.⠀
