7 Tips for Flawless Summer Skin
It seems like summer is one big occasion after another. Between weddings, parties, lake houses, vacations and birthdays there is always somewhere to go. We all know that big events, even the fun ones, seem to be a sure fire way to have something go funky with your skin. Nothing is worse than getting ready for something and have a red bump right there for everyone to see, but having a few tricks up your sleeve to minimize the spots really can help boost your confidence.
Tricks for glowing summer skin
- Move to a mild foaming cleanser- We all produce a bit more oil in the summer. Swapping out your oil or milk cleanser to a gentle hydrating foaming cleanser for one wash a day can help control clogged skin and shine throughout the day. If your skin is extra oily or blemish prone, consider an AHA exfoliating cleanser for added oomph.
- Lighten up Heavy Creams - Having a bit more oil in the skin means its time to start cutting back on heavy creams in favor of lighter formulas. Save your oils for fall and look for products containing humectants like Hyaluronic acid and Sodium Hyaluronate.
- Boost your protection with a topical vitamin C - The right formulas of Vitamin C (L-ascorbic is the most effective form) can help stop damaging rays that are getting blocked by your sunscreen. Vitamin C also boosts your ability to produce more collagen and revives a dull complexion. A complete win-win product.
- Find your Dream Sunscreen- 'The best sunscreen is one that you will actually wear.'- Katt Philipps. Sure we have our favorites. There are amazing formulas that are perfect for dry skin, oily skin, aging skin, and skin that needs just a bit of color, but the best one is the one you will wear, every day, with no excuses.
- Strategic masking - Hydrating masks are a savior year around and can help soothe skin that has had too much fun in the sun, but having a clay mask on hand for oily noses and T-zone can save you from future breakouts.
- Minimize a pimple while you sleep- cut up a hydrocolloid bandage (I prefer the bandage kind over the acne specific patches because they are less irritating and more cost effective too) and pop one on your raised pimple. 9/10 times your pimple is flattened by morning.
- Ice for underground and cystic pimples — If you are unable to see the pimple on the surface but can feel it coming, rub an ice cube on it for 30 seconds to bring down the inflammation, ease the pain, and will help your body heal quicker.
